Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord!
Is it possible to trust God and see His mighty hand in the midst of danger’s snare? Is it possible to stay focused, calm and in peace when we surrounded by uncertainty, fear, death, and etc?
Well, the answer is absolutely yes.
When the Israelites got out of Egypt they went down through the south border so that they may avoid the possible confrontation from the Philistines on the north (the land of the Philistines was to the north and east of Succoth.). However, soon after they got out of Egypt they were on the edge of the Red Sea when the Egyptian army ran them down. The Egyptians came with all their strength, military power, and rage to get them back to slavery again. On the other side there were these massive craggy mountains stretched across the southern part of the Sinai Peninsula. The route along the northern edge of the mountains of the peninsular was a ‘desert of the mountains’ not a desert of the sea. After passing through this a bone-dry desert, they arrived at the shore of the Red Sea. This huge and impassable massive body of water was the biggest challenge to the people. It seems like everything surrounded them was danger on that day. There was no way out. But listen what the word of God says at this point, Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
My friends, what are you going to do when you are facing the impassible? What are you going to do when every effort that you put in life seems to end in failure? What are you doing when troubles come in a very and unexpected way? Who do you turn to? What are you going to do in such circumstance?
What lessons can be learned from this miraculous story?
Well, let me tell you some principles that keep you focused and safe as you go through in such unbelievably difficult situation you are facing. First of all, don’t panic. Yes, the enemy is so strong and there seems no way out. But this is the time to stand firm in your faith. Remember what the scripture says in Isaiah 7:9 b, “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all” (NIV). Don’t run or be discouraged. Don’t try to take a short cut as many do when they are facing such circumstances that tested their faith and courage in the Lord. Remember what Moses told his people, “Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” It is when you stand still and trust God that you will see his deliverance. Stand still and see through. The Egyptians’ power and glory is temporary, you will never see them again; as the matter of fact no one ever saw them since that day.
Today, no matter what “mountain” or “sea” you are facing, you can overcome it through the promises and power of God’s Word, but you got to stand firm no matter what and trust the Lord. And he will fight for you. There is nothing impossible for him. He will fight YOUR battle and his promises are true. God doesn’t want to see you worry and frustrated when you are in the midst of difficulties. He doesn’t want you striving to fight your battles in your own strength. He wants to fight your battles for you. What enemies are you facing today? Instead of focusing on the impossible, focus on the one who make everything possible. Don’t focus on those who come against you, focus on the one who is fighting for you.
Secondly, there is a way through the impossible. I don’t know what your “red sea” today, but I tell you this, there is a way through it. It seems impossible. It looks huge. But go forward as the children of Israel did. Don’t turn away from the situation because it is impossible. Go forward to it because it is possible with God. Your faith step toward the impossible or the “red sea” will cause the east wind to blow. So walk up to your Red Sea of limitation. The way to walk up to your Red Sea is to do something, to show your fearlessness and faithfulness. As you facing the impossible don’t forget what God has done for you in the past. Don’t feel trapped but go forward. Stand firm and trust the Lord. I don’t know what barriers you are facing today. Whatever they are, God has a way through—-for each of you there is a way.
Thirdly, Exodus 13:21 says that “…the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire….” What a wonderful God! God is not only a wonderful provider he is also a wonderful protector and leader. The fire in the pillar of the cloud is a sign of the presence of God did not depart from Israel. It was not an ordinary cloud it was a heavenly cloud. It changed from a cloud by day to a pillar of fire at night. When the cloud moved, the people followed it. When it stopped, everybody stopped. In the nighttime the cloud was a great column of brilliant light, and all night long the radiance from that cloud brightly illuminated the entire camp so that no night ever touched them for forty years. As soon as the sun rose, the fire became a white cloud. What an amazing protection and guidance! As the cloud gave light, as the cloud was given for coverage and as the cloud was given to guide Israel through their wilderness journey God will provide divine coverage and guidance through the day and night as you going through your wilderness today through God the Holy Spirit. Despite all Israel’s failures — their murmurings, their unbelief, their rebellion — God never withdrew the Cloudy Pillar! So, too, of the Holy Spirit given to believers the sure promise is, “He shall give you another Comforter, that He may (should) abide with you forever” (John 14:16). What an amazing God we have my friends!
Finally my friends, this is what the Lord your God says “But now, this is what the LORD says— he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior” Isaiah 43: 1-3.
God will make a way through the impossible. He will push back the masses to bring you to your destiny. He will destroy that became a barrier between you and what God has promised to you. He will make a way through the wilderness and he will make a way through the great sea. He made a way in the wilderness by the cloud by day and fire by night. The cloud represents the moving of the Holy Spirit. Remember what the scripture says, “As many as are led by the Spirit they are the sons of God”. What God has planned will not be aborted. My friends, as you stand firm at the edge of the impossible remember that the Lord will fight YOUR battle. Look forward not backward. Stand firm and proclaim the goodness of your God. You can be sure that everything in God’s plan for your life is always working together toward that glorious goal. Don’t be discouraged. Don’t be afraid. Don’t let the problems you are dealing with today get you down or don’t let it take your focus off of God. Keep your trust and your focus on His promises. Believe that God is for you not against you. he will never abandon you. Believe His plans for you have not changed despite new problems or troubling circumstances. He’s always in control. God knows the end from the beginning. He is the Alpha and the Omega. He is El Shaddai!
